The Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) Foundation has announced the establishment of the Hedda Schupak-Baum Memorial Media and Communications Scholarship, commemorating the impactful career and legacy of Hedda Schupak-Baum, a distinguished figure in the jewelry industry.
Hedda, who passed away on October 3rd, 2023, at the age of 62, was celebrated for her engaging journalism and commitment to the jewelry and watch sectors.
Scholarship Objectives
The scholarship is designed to support individuals aspiring to pursue careers in journalism, public relations, communications, and media, with a particular focus on the fine jewelry and watch industries. It aims to introduce fresh talent and expertise, continuing the advancement and innovation within these fields.
Hedda Schupak-Baum: A Tribute
Hedda Schupak-Baum’s career was notably marked by her tenure as editor-in-chief of JCK magazine and The Centurion newsletter. She was remembered not only for her professional accomplishments but also for her personal qualities such as warmth, wit, and a profound curiosity about jewelry. Her efforts in promoting young designers and her unwavering integrity significantly contributed to elevating the industry’s standards.
Scholarship Details
The scholarship, funded by $25,000 over five years, has been made possible by the generous contributions of various sponsors. These sponsors, committed to nurturing talent and fostering diversity within the jewelry industry, will also partake in the selection process of the scholarship recipients. The goal is to ensure that selected individuals reflect Hedda’s spirit of excellence and dedication.
A Fitting Tribute

Jim Baum, Hedda’s husband, felt grateful, expressing, “Hedda was a journalist whose coverage of the jewelry industry educated and informed a generation of retailers and designers. She was passionate about this industry and proud of the role that women leaders played in its success. WJA was near and dear to Hedda’s heart and to know that her legacy will live on through this scholarship would have meant the world to her as it does to me.”
