Recently launched, JEMS Institute aims to offer independent retail jewelers a unified platform that consolidates educational resources, professional training, and comprehensive business management tools.
This initiative, named Jewelers Excellence Management Solutions (JEMS), aims to streamline various aspects of jewelry retailing including sales training, marketing, and overall management.
Membership Model
JEMS offers a lifetime membership, where members make a one-time payment to access all existing and future resources. This approach is designed to provide ongoing support for the diverse needs of jewelry retailers.
Background of Founders
Co-founders Jim Ackerman and Paul Furse, who have a combined experience of nearly three decades in the jewelry industry, have established the institute with the aim of integrating fragmented services into a single, efficient resource hub for jewelers.
“In my 27 plus years in the Jewelry industry I have learned a couple of things that I believe any jeweler will agree with,” states Ackerman. “First jewelers just want to be jewelers. They want to design, make and sell jewelry. And second, while they know they have to deal with management, marketing and media, they’re frustrated that they don’t know where to go or who to trust, and especially that they have to go a half-dozen different places to get what they need. We’ve started JEMS to solve that.”
Range of Services
The institute provides a broad array of resources:
- Permanent access to an archive of training materials
- Regular webinars on key topics like management and marketing
- Personalised one-on-one consultations
- A platform for members to share resources and assist each other
- Specialised certifications in key business areas
In addition, services like market segmentation reports, lead lists generated from those reports and other similar services are provided at discounts as high as 66%.
Members also benefit from discounted third-party services, including design, media production, and marketing.
Strategic Approach
JEMS aims to simplify the management of service providers for jewelers, contrasting with traditional models that require multiple separate engagements. This integrated approach is expected to reduce the complexity and enhance the efficiency of managing jewelry businesses.
Membership includes media management services, with potential savings on media buys noted by co-founder Ackerman. An introductory discount for the first 100 members provides additional financial incentives.
