On August 10, the INSTORE Show 2024 will launch with a ‘Cram Day Conference’ at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL.
The event, separately ticketed from the main show, will feature a headline seminar from GIA Alumni Collective on lab-grown diamonds – aiming to equip independent jewelers with a solid understanding of production, regulatory aspects, and future market outlook.
Seminar Details and Objectives
The Cram Day seminar will offer two sessions, limited to 50 participants each, addressing the science and identification of laboratory-grown diamonds. Lisa Kennedy, a Senior Subject Specialist in Gemology at GIA, will conduct these sessions. Her presentation will explore current production methods such as High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). Additionally, the seminar will discuss important U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations that affect the marketing and sale of these diamonds.
Participants will engage directly with tools like the GIA iD100™ gem testing device and will examine diamond samples under microscopes to distinguish between lab-created and natural diamonds.
Additional Educational Opportunities
In addition to the laboratory-grown diamond seminar, the Cram Day Conference will offer further educational tracks. Industry experts will cover essential business topics including strategic planning, digital marketing, security, and employee management. These sessions are designed to provide practical advice and best practices to help jewelry store owners improve their operations.
Show Highlights and Networking Opportunities
The INSTORE Show, scheduled for August 11-12, will include networking opportunities, educational sessions, and interactions with leading vendors. The event will feature daily keynote addresses and panel discussions. The Bench Pressure Challenge, a custom design competition, will be among the key events. Networking receptions are scheduled for both days, including the Play It Cool Party, where past and current industry achievements will be acknowledged.
