The Grown Diamond Trade Organisation (GDTO) has announced a key achievement in the lab-grown diamond sector: reaching the production of 50,000 GDTO Jewelry Reports.
This milestone signifies the growing impact of GDTO’s efforts to support ethical, sustainable, and transparent practices in the lab-grown diamond industry.
Standardising Sustainability in Lab-Grown Diamonds
GDTO’s Jewelry Reports, designed to highlight the ethical and environmental benefits of lab-grown diamonds, provide a unique selling point for retailers. These reports offer consumers comprehensive insights beyond the standard grading of Color and Clarity. Each report includes a sustainability survey that allows diamond growers, manufacturers, and retailers to display transparent sustainability ratings at the point of sale.
Before the introduction of these reports, there was no consistent method for retailers to communicate the sustainable attributes of lab-grown diamonds. GDTO’s Executive Director, Marty Hurwitz, commented on the shift in consumer preferences:
“Consumers will make a more sustainable choice given the option and for the first time that option is now available with a focus on what differentiates lab-grown diamonds from the legacy of mined diamonds.”
Growing Support from Industry Members
The GDTO’s Jewelry Reports initiative has gained significant traction, largely thanks to the early adoption by GDTO member companies. By reaching this milestone, GDTO underscores its commitment to providing the industry with the tools necessary to boost consumer confidence in lab-grown diamonds. These reports not only reinforce the ethical values of lab-grown diamonds but also align with the increasing demand for sustainable luxury products.
Expanding Leadership in the Lab-Grown Diamond Sector
To further strengthen its position within the industry, GDTO has expanded its Advisory Board, welcoming two key industry figures. Leon Peres, CEO of Green Rocks, and Riddhika Poddar of Aarush Diam, have both joined the board. Peres highlighted the significance of GDTO’s role in shaping the future of lab-grown diamonds:
“As consumer demand continues to grow, we need a strong organisation like GDTO to help shape the future of this explosive fine jewelry category. GDTO will speak to the trade and consumer in a unified voice.”
Poddar, the first female member of the GDTO Advisory Board, remarked on the rising global demand for lab-grown diamonds:
“I see consumer demand increasing way more than what it was last year and the year before that. At first it was very USA-centric. Now it’s opening in Europe, Australia, even India.”
Poddar’s inclusion signals GDTO’s broader appeal and its commitment to uniting the lab-grown diamond industry across global markets.
