The National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) has announced that applications are now open for its 2025 scholarships, offered in partnership with appraisal software provider Instappraise.
The program provides educational support to both individuals entering the appraisal field and current NAJA members seeking advanced qualifications. Applications are due by June 15, 2025.
Scholarship Options for New and Existing Members
Two scholarships are available for applicants at different stages of their appraisal careers.
The first, available to new or non-member applicants, includes a one-year NAJA membership, access to lessons 1–5 of the NAJA Appraisal Studies Course, and a one-year subscription to Instappraise.com. The total scholarship value is USD $2,070.00. Completion of the coursework leads to the “NAJA Certified Member (CM)” designation.
The second scholarship is open to current NAJA Certified Members. It includes lessons 6–18 of the Appraisal Studies Course, a one-year NAJA membership, and a one-year subscription to Instappraise.com, with a total value of USD $1,775.00. This scholarship leads to the “NAJA Certified Master Appraiser (CMA)” designation upon completion.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants for either scholarship must meet specified eligibility criteria. They are required to submit an essay outlining their reasons for applying and how the scholarship would impact their professionalism and career development. Supporting documentation of recognised gemological qualifications—such as GG, FGA, FGAA, FGG, FCGmA, or RGA—must also be provided.
Recipients of the non-member scholarship must complete lessons 1–5 within five months. CMA applicants must complete lessons 6–18 within twelve months. The coursework covers appraisal theory, ethics, valuation concepts, fair market value, and report writing. Participants must complete quizzes, pass a final exam, and submit a sample appraisal report.
As stated in the release:
“The scholarship recipient at the start of their career will commence with the bedrock of appraisal education – appraisal theory and methodology. Then, will soon advance through modules encompassing ethics, value theory, appraisal types, fair market value, and report writing, enhancing skills through quizzes, a final exam, and the completion of a final appraisal report.”
“Designations are exclusively available to active NAJA members which are conferred based on a combination of education, experience points, successful exam results, and acceptance of the sample appraisal report.”
Focus on USPAP Standards and Digital Tools
The program underscores the importance of compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), which guide ethical and procedural standards in the appraisal field.
“Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) compliance is essential for upholding public trust and ensuring the integrity of appraisal services. Jewelry appraisers who adhere to USPAP standards demonstrate their dedication to professionalism and ethics, instilling confidence in consumers and industry stakeholders.”
