At a time when store closures are increasingly common in the jewelry industry, stories of business continuity stand out.
Windsor Jewelry, a 106-year-old retailer in downtown Indianapolis, has been acquired by local business leaders Fernanda Beraldi and Ed Broecker.
The purchase, finalized on February 1, keeps the business open following the retirement of former owner Greg Bires. The store will retain its current team and service offerings while undergoing planned updates.
Business to Continue with Existing Team and Services
Located at 16 N. Meridian St. in the Guaranty Building, Windsor Jewelry specializes in engagement rings, custom designs, fine jewelry, and watches, along with repair and appraisal services. The store remains open for custom work and repairs from Tuesday through Saturday, with new inventory expected by the end of the week to accommodate Valentine’s Day shoppers.
Beraldi, whose family roots are in Brazil’s gemstone-rich Minas Gerais region, emphasized the importance of retaining Windsor’s experienced staff. “This opportunity is unique because we already have an independent and knowledgeable team in place that is very passionate about customer service and celebrating life’s special moments, and that wanted to remain with the store,” she said.
Broecker highlighted the broader economic context for the acquisition, citing recent investments in downtown Indianapolis and a growing local population as factors supporting the business’s future. Broecker further stated “The timing is perfect considering all of the recently announced investments in downtown Indianapolis and its growing population base. It’s the best team, at the right place, at the right time.”
Planned Updates and Online Expansion
The new owners have enlisted Champlin Architects, also based in the Guaranty Building, to update the store’s interior. The renovation will preserve elements of Windsor Jewelry’s long-standing identity while introducing a refreshed retail space. Additionally, Beraldi and Broecker plan to expand the store’s online presence and custom design services.
Continuity and Legacy
Bires, who led the store for decades, expressed confidence in the transition. “Fernanda and Ed bring a deep passion for the jewelry business. Along with retaining our trusted employees, I know they will ensure Windsor Jewelry continues to provide the high-quality products and excellent service that our customers have come to expect. We’re delighted to see the business continue under their ownership, with the existing team.”
Beraldi further said, “I love wearing my jewelry pieces and feeling the joy from the memories associated with them. Our vision is that the talented team at Windsor Jewelry will continue to serve Indianapolis families and help them celebrate special moments for another 100 years.”
The new ownership plans to retain Windsor Jewelry’s established presence while introducing updates for long-term sustainability.
