The Texas Jewelers Association (TJA) will hold its annual convention from October 26-27 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria in Houston.
Educational Speakers and Industry Insights
The convention’s lineup of speakers will cover a variety of aspects of the jewelry market, with a focus on both diamonds and colored gemstones.
Harold Dupuy from Stuller will discuss the current trends in the diamond sector, while Doug Hucker from the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) will share international developments in the colored stone market. Additionally, John Ford, representing the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA), will provide updates on national gemstone trade standards.
The FBI will lead a session providing advice on security practices for businesses heading into the final quarter of the year and 2024.
Round Table Discussions and Vendor Showcases
The convention will also feature round table discussions, offering attendees a chance to engage with experts on practical topics. Robert Loving from Time Delay will lead a session on how to detect imitation watches, and representatives from Podium will discuss effective communication strategies with customers. Elemental will guide a discussion on identifying fake gold, among other topics relevant to retail jewelers.
More than 20 vendors will be present, offering products and services to help jewelers prepare for the holiday season.
Networking and Competitions
Social events include the President’s Party on Saturday, offering a chance for attendees to network with industry peers. The event will end on Sunday with a jewelry design competition for professionals and students, followed by an awards dinner with live music from the Matchsticks.
