PGI USA is set to unveil a new platinum alloy – ‘Inoveo Platinum’ – at the upcoming JCK Las Vegas show.
Developed in collaboration with platinum miner Anglo American and materials designer Alloyed, Inoveo Platinum is being promoted as a significant advancement in platinum jewelry design and manufacturing.
Technical Advancements and Benefits
Inoveo Platinum has been engineered to combine the workability of white gold with the intrinsic properties of platinum. According to PGI USA, this new alloy offers substantial improvements in production efficiency and product quality. The alloy is claimed to have up to four times less porosity and a fourfold increase in production yield. Additionally, it is reported to be 40% harder than standard platinum alloys, providing enhanced durability and wear resistance.
“The launch of Inoveo Platinum provides the jewelry industry with the best of what platinum offers as the world’s most precious metal, while also providing the ease of workability that manufacturers and designers have come to expect in production. “We believe this is a tipping point for the use of platinum in jewelry manufacturing and look forward to seeing an increase of new platinum offerings in the market in the near future.”
Jenny Luker, PGI USA’s President
Manufacturing and Design Enhancements
Inoveo Platinum is designed to facilitate smoother and more consistent casting due to its lower melting temperature and high fluidity. These properties are expected to streamline the manufacturing process, enabling faster polishing and setting times and resulting in a lower rejection rate of finished pieces. These advancements could potentially lead to more efficient production workflows and higher-quality outcomes for jewelers.
“This formulation was developed with the goal of elevating the manufacturing experience for platinum jewelry makers,” stated Benny Oeyen, executive head of Market Development at Anglo American.
Availability and Support
Stuller has been named the exclusive provider of Inoveo Platinum. The alloy will be available to manufacturers, designers, and jewelers starting this summer. At the JCK Las Vegas event, Stuller’s exhibit space (Booth #13089) will feature technical specialists to provide detailed information and support to attendees interested in the new alloy.
Industry Implications
The introduction of Inoveo Platinum represents a notable development in the jewelry industry, potentially setting new standards for platinum jewelry manufacturing. The alloy’s enhanced properties may drive innovation in design and production, offering jewelers new opportunities to create more intricate and durable pieces. As the industry continues to seek advancements in materials and processes, the launch of Inoveo Platinum could play a pivotal role in shaping future trends and practices.
By addressing common production challenges and improving material performance, Inoveo Platinum may also help jewelers meet the evolving demands of consumers who seek high-quality, durable, and aesthetically appealing platinum jewelry.
