The Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America (MJSA) has announced the allocation of $9,000 in scholarships to three students pursuing careers in jewelry making and design. Each recipient will receive $3,000 from the MJSA Education Foundation to support their educational endeavors.
Scholarship Recipients and Their Aspirations
Tahnee Barbee is currently enrolled in the Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology, working towards a certificate in jewelry technology. She expects to complete her certification by the end of the year and then plans to seek employment as a bench jeweler.
Gigi Sui is entering her second year at the North Bennet Street School in Boston. She is set to receive her certificate in jewelry making and repair next year. Sui aims to work as a bench jeweler and engage in custom jewelry design.
Daniela Villacorta is studying metalsmithing at Kean University in Union, New Jersey. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts, which she plans to complete in 2026. Villacorta’s goal is to establish her own business focusing on jewelry that incorporates cultural motifs.
MJSA Education Foundation’s Contributions
Since its inception in 1997, the MJSA Education Foundation has awarded nearly $270,000 in scholarships to students in the jewelry industry. This initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting new talent and the future of jewelry making and design.
Tahnee Barbee expressed her gratitude, saying, “This scholarship is a tremendous support as I work towards my certification. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the jewelry industry as a bench jeweler.”
