The London Diamond Bourse (LDB) has announced the launch of its Women’s Network, an initiative designed to support women across the diamond and jewelry sectors.
A Platform for Connection and Collaboration
The Women’s Network is intended to bring together women working in the diamond and jewelry industry to connect and exchange insights. The initiative reflects the LDB’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion, as outlined by its Council of Management.
The first event, titled Coffee and Diamonds, was held at the LDB in December 2024 and provided attendees with the chance to share experiences and discuss industry-related topics in an informal setting.
Driving Diversity in Leadership
The Women’s Network coincides with the appointment of Charlotte Rose as the first female Vice President of the London Diamond Bourse. Speaking about the initiative, Rose said:
“We are incredibly excited to launch the Women’s Network at the London Diamond Bourse. With a goal to create a strong, supportive community for women who work in or around the diamond and jewelry sector. I have witnessed first-hand how women can thrive when given the right support and opportunities. This network will create a space for women to share their experiences, break down barriers and access the right support to grow in the industry.”
The network will include events such as informal talks and discussions with industry leaders, providing a forum for women to exchange ideas and develop their professional networks.
Advocacy from Industry Leaders
The Women’s Network has been supported by members of the LDB’s Council of Management, including Deborah Smookler, who played a key role in its development. Smookler commented:
“The Women’s Network represents an invaluable opportunity for women in our industry to connect, share insights, and support each other’s growth. By fostering a community rooted in collaboration, we are creating a ripple effect that strengthens our industry and empowers us to lead with innovation and impact.”
Lisa Levinson, another Council of Management member and Head of UK at the Natural Diamond Council, noted the importance of diversity in the industry, stating:
“Diverse perspectives enhance consumer understanding – the key to growth in the diamond industry. The British fine jewelry world is full of top calibre talent and through the Women’s Network we will support each other to better deliver a diamond experience for our consumers.”
Upcoming Event and Broader Implications
The next Women’s Network event will take place on 12 February 2025, offering professionals across the trade the opportunity to network and collaborate at an informal gathering in Hatton Garden.
The initiative highlights the industry’s increasing focus on promoting diversity and inclusion. By creating spaces where women can exchange knowledge and build relationships, such programmes contribute to shaping a more collaborative and innovative professional landscape.
