The Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA) has announced that its 2025 Tucson Gemological Conference and Gala will take place on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona. This annual event offers educational sessions and an evening of networking and celebration for the gemological community.
Conference Highlights
The 2025 conference will feature six presentations on significant topics in gemology, led by industry experts. Speakers include:
- Emmanuel Fritsch, Ph.D., Professor of Physics at Nantes Université, discussing the application of alternative luminescence in gemology.
- Sharrie Woodring, Senior Gemologist at GCAL by Sarine, addressing the integration of AI in diamond grading, fluorescence analysis, and traceability.
- Jean-Pierre Jutras, President of Jade Leader Corp, sharing findings from his extensive research on Nephrite Jade.
- Hanco Zwaan, Ph.D., Head of the Netherlands Gem Laboratory, presenting on rare and unusual gemstones encountered in gemological laboratories.
- Brecken Branstrator, Editor-in-Chief of GemGuide, recounting her fieldwork experiences at gemstone sources.
- Michael S. Krzemnicki, Ph.D., Director of the Swiss Gemmological Institute (SSEF), introducing radiometric dating techniques to examine gemstone formation.
These presentations will focus on advancements in gemological science, new applications of technology, and insights into gemstone origins.
AGA Gala and Awards
The event will close with the AGA Gala, featuring dinner, cocktails, dancing, and networking. The gala will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the AGA Antonio C. Bonanno Award for Excellence in Gemology. The 2024 award will be presented to Dr. Michael S. Krzemnicki in recognition of his contributions to gemological research.
