The Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Borsa Diamanti d’Italia to facilitate commercial relationships between their members, extending its network of diamond bourse partnerships into Europe.
The agreement was signed at the CIBJO Centenary Congress in Vicenza, Italy, held from 4 to 7 September 2026. Signatories were Ghanim Nasser Al-Saadi, QDE director, and Luigi Cosma, president of Borsa Diamanti d’Italia and vice president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses.
Member Introductions and Trading Events
The MoU provides a framework for member introductions, cooperation and reciprocal visits. Both bourses will invite members and management to industry events, tenders, auctions and viewings, potentially giving participating dealers and jewellers access to trading contacts and buying events in both markets. The announcement did not specify a timetable for these activities.
Al-Saadi said: “This agreement marks an important step in strengthening QDE’s international network and deepening our engagement with established diamond markets. Italy has a strong and respected position within the global diamond and jewelry industry, and our partnership with Borsa Diamanti d’Italia creates new opportunities for our members to build commercial relationships, exchange expertise and connect with industry counterparts. We look forward to developing this partnership and creating greater opportunities for businesses across both markets.”
Industry Standards
Both organisations have committed to supporting consumer confidence in natural diamonds and precious stones through industry initiatives. The agreement also references the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties and standards developed by the Responsible Jewelry Council.
The System of Warranties extends Kimberley Process assurances through the supply chain using declarations on business-to-business invoices and memos for rough diamonds, polished diamonds and diamond jewelry. For jewellers, these declarations form part of the documentation accompanying diamond purchases and sales. www.worlddiamondcouncil.org
European Network
The agreement follows QDE’s MoUs with the Diamond Exchange of Singapore, Shanghai Diamond Exchange and Tokyo Diamond Exchange. Borsa Diamanti d’Italia, founded in Milan in December 1926, is marking its centenary this year alongside CIBJO.
Cosma said: “Our bourse was founded in 1926, and in that century we have learned that the strength of this trade lies in the connections between its centres. Qatar brings a new and well-regulated market into that network, with a clear commitment to the standards our industry depends on. We look forward to introducing our members to Doha, and to welcoming QDE’s members to Milan.”
