The American Gem Society (AGS) 2024 Conclave in Austin, Texas, showcased significant contributions within the gem and jewelry community, with several awards distributed during the event.
This gathering served as a platform to recognise commitment and service in the gem and jewelry sectors.
Acknowledgement of Contributions
The Sallie Morton Award was awarded to Jewelers Mutual Group for their long standing support and partnership with the AGS since 2008. Amanda Coleman-Phelps, CGA and Chair of the International Guilds Council, highlighted their role in educational initiatives for members, stating, “Jewelers Mutual Group exemplifies the pinnacle of support to AGS and its members.”
Andy Martin, CEO of Wishfluence and President of the Northwest Arkansas Guild, received the Guild of the Year Award for his role in promoting innovation and community involvement within the industry. Coleman-Phelps commended his efforts: “Andy represents the epitome of innovation and community engagement within the jewelry industry.”
The John J. Kennedy Award was presented to Supervisory Special Agent Jeffrey Rolands for his efforts in enhancing the safety of the jewelry industry and AGS members.
Supporting Emerging Leaders and Diversity
The event also spotlighted emerging leaders. Kevin Mays, CGA of John Mays Jewelers, was given the Young Titleholder of the Year Award for his active participation in the Young Titleholders committee. Maria Brown, RJ and past Chair, praised his commitment: “Kevin is dedicated, a visionary, and inspirational.”
The Black in Jewelry Coalition (BIJC) in partnership with the Young Titleholders Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee awarded a Conclave registration to BIJC member Valerie Madison, highlighting the focus on increasing diversity within the industry.
The Young Titleholders Conclave Scholarship was awarded to several promising individuals, including Daniel Abdallah, Lisa Bradshaw, Kimberly Ngarupe, Leslie Rollins, David Rubenstein, Torre Spellman, and Tiana Yamaguchi.
