What is Zales’s warranty policy?
Zales offers two main protection plans for diamond jewelry: the Lifetime Diamond Commitment and the optional Forever Cherished Lifetime Protection Plan. These plans complement each other, providing a broad scope of coverage for both your diamond and the metal elements of your jewelry.
The Lifetime Diamond Commitment comes at no extra cost with any diamond purchase of $200 or more. It provides lifetime protection for your diamond against damage or loss from its original setting, provided you have the jewelry inspected and cleaned every six months. If you miss these required inspections, the warranty becomes void.
The Forever Cherished Lifetime Protection Plan is a one-time purchase that focuses on covering the metal aspects of bridal jewelry, such as engagement rings, wedding bands, and anniversary rings. This plan includes lifetime coverage for common metal-related repairs, such as resizing, polishing, and prong tightening, but it does not include diamond or gemstone replacement.
When combined, these warranties offer robust protection for both the diamond and the overall structure of the ring, helping to preserve its quality and appearance for years to come.
What’s covered by Zales’s warranty?
The Lifetime Diamond Commitment covers several important areas. If your diamond becomes chipped, broken, or lost from its setting due to normal use, Zales will replace it with a diamond of similar value and quality at no charge. In more severe cases, where the setting is heavily damaged or cannot be repaired, Zales may replace the entire item with a similar piece.
In addition to diamond replacement, Zales offers lifetime cleaning and inspections, which you can take advantage of as often as you like. However, to keep the warranty active, you must bring the item in every six months for inspection.
Another benefit under the Lifetime Diamond Commitment is the trade-in program. Zales guarantees that you can trade in your diamond for a new one as long as the new item costs at least double the original purchase price. You’ll receive 100% of the original value as long as you have proof of purchase. It’s important to note that lab-created diamonds must be traded for other lab-created diamonds, and the same applies to natural diamonds.
For the metalwork, the Forever Cherished Lifetime Protection Plan covers essential services such as resizing your ring (up or down by two sizes), tightening prongs, resetting stones, and refinishing the ring. It also includes services like rhodium plating for white gold, re-tipping prongs, and one-time complimentary ring engraving. You’ll also receive a discount on future purchases. However, this plan does not cover the repair or replacement of any diamonds or gemstones.
What isn’t covered by Zales’s warranty?
Zales’s warranties do come with a few important limitations. Under the Lifetime Diamond Commitment, there’s no coverage for colored gemstone jewelry, watches, or previously owned diamond jewelry. Additionally, the warranty doesn’t protect against theft, mysterious disappearance, or damage caused by anything other than normal wear. It only covers diamonds that remain in their original settings and have been inspected by Zales. Any unauthorized repairs or alterations will void the warranty.
The Forever Cherished Lifetime Protection Plan also has specific exclusions. It does not cover the replacement or repair of diamonds and gemstones, which means you’ll need to rely on the Lifetime Diamond Commitment (or other insurance) for those. Pre-existing damage, issues covered by another warranty or insurance, and damage caused by improper use are also excluded. Similarly, the plan only allows for resizing up to two sizes, and unauthorized repairs void the protection.
These exclusions exist to maintain the integrity of the jewelry and ensure that all repairs are handled by Zales’s trained professionals.
Other things you should know about Zales’s warranty policy
To make a claim under either warranty, you will need to provide proof of purchase, so be sure to keep your receipts safe. This applies whether you’re making a warranty claim, requesting a trade-in, or exchanging an item. If you received the jewelry as a gift, you’ll still need proof of purchase for any warranty services or exchanges.
If your item needs to be shipped for a claim, Zales doesn’t specify who covers return shipping costs. It’s a good idea to check with your local store before initiating a return to understand any shipping fees that might apply.
Additionally, you must follow the six-month inspection requirement under the Lifetime Diamond Commitment. Missing an inspection can void the warranty, so it’s important to stay on top of those visits.
Finally, while Zales’s plans cover most issues related to normal wear and tear, they don’t cover loss or theft. If you’re concerned about those risks, Zales partners with Lavalier Personal Jewelry Insurance, which can provide additional protection beyond what the warranties offer.
If you have any issues with your jewelry contact their customer service team here, and they’ll request you to send the piece back for inspection.
